Hey, everyone! Today is Independence Day, when we especially celebrate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence 241 years ago on July 4 1776. I’ve been thinking lately about what it means to be independent, and it’s led me to think about something Jesus said that I think will be a huge blessing to you on this day and every day:
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing” — John 15:5
Jesus doesn’t say, “apart from me you can do some things.” He says, “apart from me you can do nothing.” I have a great family, a great church, a great ministry and great friends. I nearly died four times, the most recent battle being against cancer. It’s very easy to live life independently from God — when all along, it’s only God who has made it all possible.
Before the fireworks flare, why not take some time today to thank God for all He’s given you, and all He’s done — and is doing — in your life? No matter where you are or what you’re going through, there is something you can thank God for. Really, everything you have in life is because of Him. Apart from Him, you can do nothing.
WHAT’S ONE THING YOU CAN THANK GOD FOR? HAVE YOU BEGUN TO DO SOMETHING WITHOUT RELIANCE UPON GOD? WHY NOT INVITE HIM INTO THE EQUATION, SO YOU ARE TRULY RELIANT UPON HIM?
